“I prefer a Church which is… dirty because it has been out on the streets.” -Pope Francis
From time to time we offer a unique experience for young adults and adults who are interested in participating in our retreat experiences but who are not part of a high school, college or parish group.
Our retreat offers you an opportunity to live the Gospel, deepen your understanding of the global Church, and to make a difference by committing to service, faith and social justice.
Live, work and pray in community. Walk the dusty streets of Guayaquil with our volunteers; meet our neighbors and hear their inspiring stories; worship at the local Catholic parish; visit ministry projects serving those in need, and encounter Christ among the poor. Click here for more details.
The cost is $1000 plus airfare (financial aid up to $400 is available for those who are unable to pay the full amount).
“This is really very important to me: the need to become acquainted with reality by experience, to spend time walking on the periphery in order to really become acquainted with the reality and life experiences of people.” Pope Frances.
Joy of the Gospel
Inspired by the missionary vision of Pope Francis “to spend time walking on theperiphery”, Rostro de Cristo invites you to a unique opportunity to understand your faith, and the life of Jesus and the Gospels in a different way – from a Church on the periphery.
Participants will be guided and hosted by Rostro de Cristo’s In Country Director, Brian Goonan, who has over 40 years of experience living and working as a Catholic missionary in Latin America, and our energetic and committed volunteers.
Retreat participants will be invited to pray and reflect on words and actions of Pope Francis as you walk the dusty streets of Guayaquil, meet our neighbors and hear their inspiring stories, visit with our local ministry partners serving the local Church, and encounter Christ among the poor.
Come join us for a week of prayer, reflections and encounter with Christ: join us as we discern God’s call for us today!
